My ALS Journey (26/n): Cippi’s first Adventures
Cippi went on her first big trip. First, she went to Belgium to visit Tom Tesch, and then she flew to Toronto to CppNorth, where she was warmly welcomed by Kate Gregory. In addition, I would like to strongly recommend my current care service, Ce La Vie.

Cippi’s First Big Trip

Visiting Tom Tesch
Tom gave Cippi a very warm welcome in Belgium. They took a few trips to Belgium. DAE mech met up (see the picture above) with her and visited the famous Broel Tower. She wasn’t afraid of the big robot.
To be prepared for all eventualities, Tom’s wife Aleksandra Gescinska crocheted for Cippi a wonderful summer hat. You can see it in the pictures from CppNorth. Then it was time for the flight from Belgium to Toronto with Tom.

CppNorth
In Toronto, Cippi was warmly welcomed by Kate. As a guest at the keynote and many other talks, Cippi was always at the center of the action. From Toronto, she will now travel directly to CppCon.
But that doesn’t mean her wanderlust has been satisfied. Here are Cippi’s travel plans for this year:
- CppNorth (Toronto, Canada) – July 20–23
- CppCon (Aurora, USA) – September 13–19
- NDC TechTown (Kongsberg, Norway) – September 22–25
- C++ Under the Sea (Breda, Netherlands) – October 8-10
- Meeting C++ (Berlin, Germany) – November 6-8
More Adventures
Cippi has experienced much more, of course. You can follow her adventures on Cippi’s blog or her Instagram account.
Ce La Vie: An Excellent Intensive Care Service

I would like to take this opportunity to draw attention to an excellent intensive care service. I am writing this recommendation for two reasons: firstly, because many ALS patients read my articles, and secondly, because it is tough to find a very good care service.
Ce La Vie is the second care service I have used. I now receive 24/7 care.
Ce La Vie is an ideal choice for both the person receiving care and the caregiver. I could give many reasons, but I will limit myself to two.
- Ce La Vie works almost exclusively with full-time staff. This means that these staff members can be trained in just a few days, allowing me to quickly build trust in them. At my last care service, I was cared for by 20 part-time staff members. This meant that some carers were still not fully trained, even after six months. This was a significant strain on my wife and me.
- My wife, Beatrix, and I have become very close friends with many of my caregivers. This is important, as we practically live in a shared apartment.
You can find out more about the Ce La Vie care service here: https://www.celavie-pflege.de/.
