My ALS Journey (25/n): Small and Big Hurdles
Today, I want to share with you some of my everyday problems.
>> My ALS Journey so far <<
New Authentication at the Bank

My bank has suddenly requested that I authenticate myself using a type of Postident procedure. For me, this means that they require both a photo of my ID card and a live image of me. For the live photo, I have to take off my ventilator mask, of course. However, I’m unable to do that for such a prolonged period. The three of us tried this process for two hours. After these unsuccessful attempts, I contacted my bank directly. Two weeks later, we solved the problem with a live video. After that, I had to change my cell phone number. Unfortunately, the same authentication procedure was necessary for this. So the game started all over again.

Signature for my GmbH
As the managing director of my GmbH, I occasionally need to sign documents. However, I am no longer able to do this. Although my wife has unlimited power of attorney, she is not allowed to do so. As a result, my wife is now also the managing director. This change cost us €300 at the notary’s office.
Feeding Tube

I often choked while eating. I need a feeding tube in the long term. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as I thought. The hospital in Tübingen, which is 10 km away, does not want to perform this procedure. My ALS center in Ulm, which is 100 km away, is putting a few special hurdles in my way. The admission is on Thursday, but the operation is not until Tuesday. Additionally, there are two days following the operation. So I have to stay in the hospital for a total of seven days, even though three days would be enough. You have to understand that I can’t do anything in the hospital. So I’ll be lying in bed for seven days, staring at the ceiling. That’s my personal hell.
I’m not going to go through with this surgery. Sometimes I think my mental state is being equated with my physical condition. Now I’m looking for another hospital.
This and That

Cippi
Cippi is on her way to Toronto for CppNorth. First, she’s flying with Tom Tesch from Belgium to Toronto. In Toronto, she will be picked up by Kate Gregory. Thank you very much, Tom and Kate.

Tübix
On Saturday, I gave a presentation at Linuxtag in Tübingen. I gave a 50-minute overview of C++26. The presentation and the discussions afterwards were very nice.
