My ALS Journey: 10/n

Wow! This is already my 10 status report.

>> My ALS Journey so far <<

How I write articles

First, I dictated my article in German. Then, I automatically translated it into English. Thanks to Deepl, this was child’s play. Finally, I corrected the English article with an on-screen keyboard layout in WordPress.

Darth Vader

My voice is very quiet now. I’ll wear a nose mask to help you understand me better. Please don’t be frightened; this is my face with and without the mask. Beatrix calls me Darth Vader.

Little Problems

As I can hardly move my hands, my wife Beatrix feeds and washes me. These are the big, well-known challenges of ALS. However, many little problems often become big challenges. I can neither sneeze nor cough. I also cannot scratch my head or shake off flies or ants that walk over my body.

Two Ladies

Pepi and Luci are now one and two and a half years old, respectively. I enjoy watching them. Unfortunately, I can hardly play with or feed them, so building a deeper relationship with them is relatively difficult. They often visit Beatrix for cuddles, but not me. Now I’ve found a little trick: cream cheese.

Move Semantics

On June 3, we move from our house to an apartment. Since I can’t help, I must go into short-term care for a few days. The new apartment has no stairs and a large shower without a barrier.

My Struggle

I aim to raise awareness of ALS and related nerve diseases, so I need your help. Do you have any media contacts? Please get in touch with me at rainer.grimm@ModernesCpp.de.
